Good morning and Happy Valentines Day

We’re writing about an installation called ‘HeartBeat’ and so today seemed to be a great day to mention it.

Working with Ingo Kalecinski and Graham Rollins of GNI projects, Radiant designed a custom version of the 3D LED Flex 40 IP 65 system, for their installation at the Lightwaves Festival at Salford Quays.

Please find enclosed some photos and information about this latest Radiant collaboration with GNI projects.

The 3D LED Flex 40 IP65 system is a modular high power linear LED lighting system, which can bend and twist in 3 dimensions.

Each 100 mm module incorporates 4 x Luxeon Z red LEDs, an 8 degree Gaggione lens, and custom anti-glare snoots. Each module is individually addressable via DMX. Touch activated D100 spotlights were also used in the installation.

GNI Projects are known for using hearts in their light art installations - both the iconic heart shape and the heart rate monitor (ECG) have appeared frequently in their projects, always in their trademark red light.

In this latest project we see both the heart shape and ECG monitor which are created from bent anodized aluminium rod. They are then lit using the DMX controlled narrow beam 3D LED Flex 40 system, and with matching red LED D100 spotlights.

Using a custom DMX sequence the heart rate monitor effect is achieved as each module fires a spot of red light in quick succession onto the bent rods hanging above.

When the viewers then link hands and touch two pressure points, the red LED D100 spotlights are activated which illuminates the iconic heart shape, made of a hanging 3D mesh of aluminium rods.
